Delphi to C# and .NET Migration Options

Your three options

You can translate the Delphi code mechanically to C#, rewrite the application from scratch, or rebuild it module by module while it keeps running. Each has a different cost, risk, and outcome — and 'translate everything' is rarely the right one.

Translation preserves behavior but also preserves the old design's problems. Rewriting fixes the design but costs more and takes longer. The module-by-module hybrid is usually the pragmatic winner.

What translation really gets you

Automated Delphi-to-C# tools convert code mechanically. They're fastest, but you inherit the original architecture, workarounds, and bugs — and you still need developers to fix what the tool mangled. Translation is a starting point, not a finish line.

Treat any tool's output as a draft that needs a human architect's review.

What a rebuild gets you

A rebuild on .NET with a clean architecture gives you modern patterns, testability, and a platform your team can actually maintain. The cost is time and care — especially the parts of the Delphi app that have grown organically over a decade.

The trick is deciding which modules deserve a rebuild and which just need to keep working.

How to decide module by module

Score each module: how often it changes, how critical it is, how tangled the code is. Critical and tangled? Rebuild carefully. Stable and simple? Translate and move on. Rarely used? Consider retiring it instead of migrating it.

This is where an experienced partner earns their keep — the assessment separates what must move from what should die.

What Uphill Tech does

We assess your Delphi application, then migrate it to React + Node.js + Tailwind (or .NET where that fits your team) module by module, with data preserved and the old system running until cutover. You stay in business the whole time.
